Happiest of Birthdays... I'll be 'Fab, feisty and fifty' eventually too!

Last week I visited the site of my addiction... That internet auction site that promises 'It's a bargain', while the rug is pulled out from under your feet by a sneaky sniping bidder!

I started to look ahead at the future... Not a bad thing, I know, given my recent doldrums...

I was thinking of my forthcoming Fiftieth Birthday Celebration. So important, it warrants capitals!

It won't take place for almost four years yet...

Still, preparation is everything... 'Your lack of planning is not my emergency', is my kind of motto...

So, I found some lovely heart shaped balloon weights on t'Internets... I didn't even know that I'd need balloon weights but someone obviously has, as they're selling theirs, possibly from a wedding, who knows... Pink. Twenty-eight of 'em. Enough for around twenty inflated balloons apparently... Good that, eh?!

So they're now mine. For less than a fiver. I'm waiting for the postie as I tippy-tappy here... I've also ear-marked some balloons (luxury latex, of course), some curling ribbon to secure the balloons (silver or pink, what do you think?), some napkins, pink... Oh, and some sprinkling confetti for the tables. Irridescent pink hearts and little 50's in pink. I'm even watching a sweet little china cake stand, pink spots, to hold a bunch of cup-cakes. I promise I won't buy those yet. Becoming Miss Havisham springs to mind, if I do! But I have found a local bakery that does special celebration cakes and buns...

I've no idea where I'm going to store this stuff for the next three-plus years. Under my already cramped bed, perchance?

Thing is, the reality is that I've got GJ's Fiftieth falling before mine ever does. So I've also sourced blue and black. (or should that be 'black and blue') accessories... Confetti showing 'Five-Oh' as well as the words 'Old Fart'.

He might kill me yet... Black napkins. Blue balloons. Black streaming ribbon. A telling banner to display. Disposable tablecloths, white... A singing Elvis card...

You see, after my cousin's partner's fabulous fancy dress Fiftieth party the other weekend, GJ mentioned that, after all he'd ever said earlier, he'd tolerate a party for his Fiftieth...

My cousin, who'd courteously planned Amanda's party for her, so that all she had to do was turn up in her 'Drama Queen' Carnivale outfit, replete with very realistic Shirley Temple style hair extensions, (she looked soooooooooo glam!) has said that he'll do the 'same-ish' thing for me.

That's lovely of him, is it not? The buffet (veggie) was the best I'd ever eaten in fact. The dancing music was fabulous and just right for our era (except for the super-miserable, obviously 'sick-of-his-life', DJ). There was even an acoustic guitarist friend playing during buffet scoffing time... The venue, the Magnesia Bank in North Shields, a renowned music locale, was fabulous and just the right size. A great atmosphere and elegantly decorated with gleaming golden boudoir miroirs...

GJ wants his party held in our local hostelry. Miles from the city. Middle of nowhere... Far from his colleagues' homes. Sheep for company. Complementary darts and jokes, courtesy of the darling, very loveable landlord. No food, except for Farmer Skelly's pies probably... So, do come if you enjoy a good old-fashioned, ***PTA-style, Pie and Peas Supper! And no music...

I read online during the week that you can hire the city's Victorian art gallery for private functions... I think I'll do that for mine.

Are you coming, then?!

Of course, it'll be Grizz's Twenty-First Birthday in 2013 too, Madonna's Lourdes help me!

**PTA - Parents & Teachers' Association - Traditional School Fund-Raisers here in the UK - A pie, some peas, and a dinner-dance...

Count me in - would love to come to your party. As for the ribbon? Pink AND silver.

As for your Hubby - you must do a big one for him as well. I did for mine and he still appreciates it three (almost 4) years later. Although, don't do as I did - and be sure to eat. That way you can enjoy the middle and the end of the party as well, instead of crashing half-way through.....ermmm, yeah - eat. Very important not to drink on an empty stomach.....just between you and me.
