A view from the ledge...

I loved the dress... And, as in the picture above, I thought it had hefty overtones of Grace Kelly's elegant lace ensemble, with a different neckline of course. The veils and bouquets seem practically identical.

In my view it was lovely, tasteful and understated, with a nod towards both the past and the future, very stylish. I loved it that she had chosen to go with the House of Lee McQueen - A nice touch. British, eccentric, troubled - Shades of the Monarchy there, methinks!

I thought the mahogany tones of many of the Middleton family, including the bridesmaid, Philippa, were a trifle overdone. But who cares about my opinion, eh? Mr Lagerfeld does not have my number in his little black leather book!

I felt the Abbey looked wonderful with the golds and the reds, heightened by the greenery provided by the trees.

In spite of myself, and I only watched a little of the mad hours of televised footage, (FGS, it's still going on this morning, and I've been reduced to watching the Fishing Channel with John Wilson, to avoid it!), I believed it looked almost natural, a real wedding complete with nerves, doddery old relics that don't get on, and not to be trusted, wobbling best man, in spite of all the pomp and ceremony that surrounded it.

I loved the music choices, particularly Jerusalem, which courtiers sang at Fhina's own wedding almost 25 years ago...

We chose it because of its rousing tradition and untarnished beauty, the poem by the quite mad, William Blake, that I had loved at University.

I'm just not going to go there with the lot that believe it champions an ideal of England, not a United Kingdom.

I see myself more as European, rather above all those bigoted arguments.
