Knickers to the lot of you!

Knickers Pictures, Images and Photos

I've done it again, me bloggy waterhogs... I've been to that dark place... That Statcounter thingummiejig...

I was curious to be looking at where you all come from, where you live, and what brings you here, into Fhina's World, and into her waiting, warm and always loving, embrace...

One of the latest word-searches that has brought some, (probably very disappointed!), traffic to me site, is apparently this one:

"I love going knickerless"

Big Knickers Pictures, Images and Photos

Putting my moue and my upset aside for a moment, I pondered the word, "Knickers..."
knickers Look up knickers at Dictionary.com
"short, loose-fitting undergarment," now usually for women, 1881, shortening of knickerbockers (1859), said to be so called for their resemblance to those of Dutchmen in Cruikshank's illustrations from Washington Irving's "History of New York" (see knickerbocker).
So knickers stems from knickerbockers...

Doesn't it sound old fashioned and a bit naughty? Is it mainly used by the English, or does the term travel the Pond?

It used to be more frequently used as a good substitute for a swear word, when you're not too serious about what's got your knickers in a twist in the first place...

My Other Half occasionally reverts to his youth, brought up in a bizarrely politically extrovert, and yet hypocritically repressive, family... And he emits the word, "Knickers!"

It always makes me laugh out loud...

Knickers to the lot of you! ;)

Forget the rest, the top image alone is perfect lol :)))

How on EARTH do you learn how people are coming to your blog? Like, with words and hits and stuff?? That's incredible. You can DO that? :)))

Well, the word is not common on this side of the pond but us sophisticated types know what it means (snicker). I suppose the definition once suited the garment women wore under their Mother Hubbards, but my entire drawer of uh, panties?, uses less fabric than one of my grandmother's underalls. Funny thing, I have it on the best authority (google) that in years past only women who were no better than they should be wore such garments. Seems they were considered too seductive and even unhealthy by doctors in the seventeen hundreds. BTW, the most common words that bring people to my blog are "swimming naked" and "naked redhead". I promise they did not exactly find what they were looking for.

Ma chère Boucle d'Or,

I have been away (and am back, a year older but none the wiser!) and here you are talking about knickers. Do you remember that silly childhood joke ? What comes out of the ground shouting "Knickers, knickers, knickers"? Crude oil.

After a quick catch up on the interim posts, you have done wonders. An especially big thank you, however, for your rant on fascism and the quote from Rosa Luxembourg.

Grosses bises.

I wish I had more interesting words directing the masses to my site. I've limited myself to checking only once a month for fear of obsessing.

Love the wrinkle doggy with the knickers. I want to hug him, even if he might drool on me.

What about 'Bloomers'?... Or 'directoire knickers?'

My cousin's husband had a nice variation on the substitute swear word- he used to say "Oh! Lace On Ladies Knickers!"

I love the phrase, Knickers in a twist. It's just so descriptive. I know when I'm anxious, nervous, or upset, it could be a very literal phrase!

Love that photo - the poor puppy looks thrilled.

I may have to adopt use of the word "Knickers" as a substitute for some of the other swear words that come out of my mouth. It'll be my new self improvement project.

XO, dear Fhina!

With the golf on at the moment, the word "knickers" can be heard from time to time - but it refers to the men's plus fours here.

Ha! Good idea, Fhina. I will substitute the word whenever necessary:

When I go into the bathroom-Son, don't leave your knickers around!

Oh, knickers, the dogs got the knickers off the line!

Gosh, I just can't get the knack of using knickers...still, it was fun to try. I'm knickered-out from the effort. Fun post, Lady Fhina <3

This is a word that has been ejected from my vocabulary since coming under the influence of American English... It took me some time to get used to panties (not that I went "knickerless")and I was very concerned with the way pants (masculine underwear) became trousers or slacks... All very confusing! Now, I do have to admit - there is no expression that substitutes "getting your knockers twisted"!!

MY goodness,Ms. Fhina, you are mentioning unmentionables! In my neck of the woods we wear so many clothes that going knickerless would not be noticed.

Bless you all for stopping by, amidst my washing line full of
smalls, mes bloggy laundresses...

I have been struggling with my back again this weekend, I'm afraid to say - Ever so sorry... I am hoping to get there, some day, and not always be complaining about my back like an old loony woman of little importance... Allez, salut maintenant... Je vous aime xox

"going Knickerless" leave it to you to have that as a keyword search! I do still get some viewers who have searched "peeing green" but it doesn't sound quite as classy, even when said in British accent ;-)
