Snapshot of Life Chez Fhina...

Okay, I'm giving myself 15 minutes to write this and to find a suitable image or images to represent La Vie Sans Rose, by which I mean offering you a snapshot of a Life Less Glamorous, shall we say...

I need to load at least two lots of washing into our machine, and deal with drying clothes in our Laundry Room, which is currently languishing in sub-arctic temperatures... I can't be arsed to be honest... I'm harbouring a booming headache that I've had all day and I've imbibed more Lucozade than is medically appropriate for me! I've just woken up from a desperately needed afternoon kip-ette, which I thought would rid me of the headache. That'll be a "No" then! I try not to take too many tablets in life... I might have to give in to some painkillers and an early trip to bed to watch the new BBC Costume Drama, Cranford and later Kenneth Branagh's English/Swedish detective, Wallandar... It's good but I also love the echt Swedish version. Sunday is my favourite night for TV watching... Usually I don't watch that much.

Meanwhile, my Other Half, GJ, is plinking semi-tunefully on his acoustic guitar... He has five guitars in the home, all of which rank in his affections higher than me... I'm below the guitars and our three boats... I'm joking! Meh! He's just left the room, leaving the TV on (bless him!) and entered the kitchen to make our supper. How he intends to watch TV from the kitchen I've no idea, but it keeps him out of trouble.

There is silence from the Lanky Spawny Get, our man-child on the threshold of 18. If I live that long... He is silent for we just bought new batteries for his wire-less X-Box controller. He doesn't play games that much to be honest, (he prefers to just torture his parentals, really), but we gave him two new games at Christmas, so it's currently bliss.

We've spent much of today (and yesterday) ferrying him back and forward to Lifeguard Training at a pool around 20 miles away... We figure it's a skill that will see him fund and occupy himself through College vacations in the future (hah!), and anyway I embroidered his University application form saying that he was training to be a lifeguard, so he has to! GJ and I went swimming today which was a real benefit. We then went on a long drive in the car, to help recover from our recent cabin-fever. It worked and the sun actually shone. Bonus!

Grizzler has arrived from upstairs, moody and grumpy as ever. He's knackered after two days' worth of training and brain-exploitation, and had an exam last week too. I'm making every excuse for him, but he does my head in, after all the years of being my only darling, mon Petit Prince...

Anyhoo his beak is open and he's desperate for food... Obviously! GJ and I variously job-share as chauffeurs, whipping-boys, cooks, laundry-maids, idiots, personal tutors, clowns, contract cleaners, money-lenders and personal shoppers. We trade a few insults for free.

This weekend we've been dealing with the fall-out from all that snow-fall, namely localized flooding. The Joy. The Horror! This has meant every journey took us twice as long, and involved driving through tumultuous fords at one stage with water the colour of milky coffee flowing ominously over the bonnet of our car. That was a hairy, scary moment. The waters have eased a little today, and have returned to a more benign blue colour...

And tomorrow, we re-invent ourselves as wage-slaves. Working for The Man... Oh, that was more than 15 mins. The Siren-Song of the Laundry Room beckons me, 'Come hither...' Ciao bellas!

I like your learning to swim photo.Learning to float is always the best way to start. You look a bit pale ...oh,but that's right you don't get much sun over there...no need for the slip slop
slap routine.

I wonder if universities are wise to the fact that all applications are written by parents? I guess if it's written in English with half decent grammar and no spelling mistakes, it's a dead give-away.

Lucozade! It isn't sold in France for some reason and I get a yearning for it every now and then.

And Wallander. I've read a lot of the Henning Mankell novels and I bought on DVD the first series with Branagh. The books are better but Branagh was good.

Wallander and Lucozade: bitter, sweet, dark and light etc.

Hi Fhina,

Sorry your week/weekend wasn't the haven of bliss you deserve but just think, there's always chance this week!

Attempt no. 2 to write you a comment. On posting the first one the internet connection disappeared and I lost every intelligent word I wrote. Now you'll have to do it with this one:
entertaining post. Sorry you have (hopefully: had) a headache.
I prefer the Swedish Wallander. But I enjoy Cranford even more, for it makes me smile.

Did I mean you have to do it? I probably meant: you'll have to make do. Oops.

Dear long, lost, friend from afar, sounds as if you are up to your eyeballs with life over there! I do hope that Monday morning brought relief from that headache. Good to "hear" from you again, sorry I have been mia! Take care.

Nice to catch up on your news Fi - I'm between laundry loads too. How sad. How on earth does there get to be that much? I only have one significant other in my life, but I always seem to be washing. I think he just takes joy in throwing clean clothes into the laundry bin - it can be the only explanation. I must get him to take up a more constructive hobby!

Fhina, love, so sorry for the headache. As for the way you spent your Sunday, other than the headache, welcome to my life, dear. It piles of dirty laundry and more piles of hungry children everywhere I turn on the weekend!

Love to you,
Bloggus

Persistent headaches are the worst thing - I always think as long as one has a clear head then all other body pain is somewhat doable. As for your kind hubby making food in the kitchen - I hate sound being left on somewhere when a room has just been vacated. Difficult? Picky? Moi?

Lordy Fhina, don't hate me if I say that it all sounds like heaven to me. All those years marking the growing, up, and away. What wouldn't I give to have the house full again, to be needed, to be hard done by-to be tired but happy.

Now we have peace-and I wait for emails, texts and phone calls-I love and worry from a distance.

Something I wrote earlier...
