Requiescat in pace...
Government Office for the North East
1994 - 2011
Atmospheric photo showing the view from what was once our office, towards the majestic, mysterious, River Tyne, taking in part of what remains of Newcastle's mediaeval City Walls, its ancient towers, ditch and ramparts, taken by one of my former colleagues, Graeme Andrew Stickings 2009.
Adjacent to the Walls is the Gate to our Chinatown, on Stowell Street.
~ I have fond memories of pressure and stress, some of which was the very good kind: And working hard with wonderfully bright and intelligent friends and colleagues and their passion for the North East.
I shall remember our belly laughs and occasional hysteria!
Hard work and good times.
Much love,
Fhina x

What a lovely tribute for all of you to cherish.....nobody can take your memories away....
That Chinese gate knocks spots off the one in Soho...
What are they going to do with the buildings? They should probably just bulldoze them all really.
You worked in a maximum security prison in East Germany?
Thank you, Karen S!
Dotterel, Sir, thank you, I hadn't realised that, but you are so right - Ours is very robust and beautiful!
Expatmum - The buildings across the national network, I understand, are mainly leased from landlords - We hand back the space we occupy/ied and other tenants have already moved in on our desks... In fact, they were measuring us up for our shrouds before we'd even left, resulting in some last-minute horrendous and unnecessary moving us about the floors of the building into ever-smaller spaces - which only added to the traumas of letting go...
CB: Loving your new profile pic - I was employed by Stalag Luft - but it's a secret - Shhhhhhhhh!
Lovely tribute!! And such a beautiful photo of the gate!!!!
