Reasons to be Cheerful - Part Two!

bella Pictures, Images and Photos

So, yesterday, I left you with something warm, non? The wonderfully wise questions put to me by stars in the bloggy firmament all... And for fear I was rambling trop (moi?!), I thought I would leave un petit morceau over until today... Hope that meets with your approval, mes dahlinks...

And the fabulous Dotterel had the sheer nerve to put this to me:

'If Hitler had one, Goebels had none and Schubert was blessed with three, what was the score after extra-time under Duckworth-Lewis calculations?'

Dads Army Pictures, Images and Photos

I know from old episodes of Dad's Army that the character Pike sang, 'Hitler has only got one ball...' So I think I know where you are going with that one, Sir, and I'm not going with you, unlike Kathleen Ferrier, perhaps!

Lovely Jo at Reasons to be Cheeful , 2, 3, asked me, "What is the most important lesson you have learned in your life?," but if that's too hard I have another "Red or white wine for the party?"

Jo, I shall answer no probs, my little bloggy tinder-box - Red or White for a party? Always both, that way you satisfy all tastes...

And My Most Important Lesson... Lots of lessons about love of my son, and yet so much of that is instinctual and maternal, if that makes sense...

Spring Cleaning Pictures, Images and Photos

I will be totally honest, that I was a good girl all my years in various offices - Imagining that if I worked hard, eventually I would be recognised and someone would haul me up into a better position, to reward my best efforts... I finally learned that if I wanted to get on in life, and didn't want to play cliquey office politics and be false to myself, I would have to do it wholly under my own steam... I had gained some self-confidence following a successful secondment abroad, and when some opportunities for promotion into another office cropped up, without waiting for anyone's support to 'go for it', I applied, was interviewed and got my promotion. Within a comparitively short space of time, and having waited years for my first prmotion, I applied for, and received a further promotion to the level I am currently relatively happily working at...

My advice to anyone would be to say life isn't a meritocracy - If you are good enough to want a job, go for it... You don't have to play corporate games, and you needn't wait years to be recognised as a good worker, as I did...

Next in the horses' stalls is fabulous Carma, who asked, "At what point in your life were you at your happiest and if you were to go back to school to study something, what would it be" (I've combined 2 questions into one!)"

Wow... That first one is really tough...

leaded glass Pictures, Images and Photos

If I had the chance and the fees, I would love to go back to college and get a degree in Creative Stained/Leaded Glass Arts... If you'd asked me earlier in life, I would have probably have said I should have studied Psychology, instead of Modern Languages, as I did... And when I get old, I think I might do my Masters of Arts, this time in English Literature through Open Learning, if that's possible then... Great questions, Carma!

Lovely Meredith at The Things We Carried, wondered thusly..."Now, why have you not written of your parents? If the question is not too personal, you have intrigued me".

I can't really say why I don't write about them... Bits and pieces of their lives and their sayings often come to me when I am scribbling here... I am very sad that that they are no longer walking beside me; For my mum to 'tuck in a wing' when we promenade together, and for them to give me hugs and help guide my still-faltering steps in life... I loved them dearly, and yet (like so many mothers/daughters), my relationship with my mum was a tad more complicated...

In essence, I am afraid to open the floodgates that hold back my love for them and the immense sorrow that they are no longer here... I hope that's answered your kind questions, dear Meredith...

baby Pictures, Images and Photos

Finally, sweet and precious Braja from the more than fabulous Lost and Found in India, asked me where I get my inspiration from...

butterfly Pictures, Images and Photos I have an incredibly butterfly mind, m'darling. I read a lot. My former colleague, himself a senior Police Officer, always said that I would make a good detective, and he joked that my middle name is Google... How did he know?

I love art and history, and literature, and just bold, bare knowledge, without it even leading to qualifications... Anything that interests me, I devour it... As a result, I know a lot of nonsense about nothing in particular... Jackass of all trades and mistress of nought indeed...

So, I get inspiration from art and writing, TV and media, and sometimes even the weird pictures someone has posted to Photobucket can start me thinking about what I might write...

I am inspired by what I am curious about in nature and my strong sense of being connected so, to the earth, and to the countryside that surrounds me, wherever I may be roaming...

musical notes Pictures, Images and Photos

You know I adore music, albeit I mainly blog in silence, with only the clitter-clatter of the metal tippy tappy, and GJ's occasionally less than silent screams to accompany me, so my wide-ish ranging love of notes on lines keeps me in buoyant fettle...

Finally, Braja, I love people, like you, and the life-beauty which people expose here in Blogland, and that inspires me to keep going, to attempt to touch lives, and to always try to make a difference...even if it is only a little one...

That's very important to my life. To make a difference. I know it's a cliche, but it is so easy to do, and it costs nothing. Recession busting even... Make a difference, mes dahlinks... Hey, you know you're already doing it...

You absolutely do touch lives here, Fhina.

One might say that I was 'a bit touched' before I got to you, and I'll certainly not argue with that, but your writing never fails to touch me in some way.

And, I love these posts where we are getting to the bottom of the mystery that is Fhina!

Love you,
Bloggus

Sometimes we have no idea of the difference we've made until years later, though, so it's probably not a good idea to go looking for it, but to be pleasntly surprised when it finds us! xxx

Hello Fhina,

I certainly marvel at your ability simply to write about all manner of subjects with insight and humour and generosity of spirit.

Hmmm... I'd have to say to trust more in myself and my own judgement. I have been hurt by both men and so-called "friends". I tend to care more about others than they do about me. I tend to give more. Ever so slowly, I have learned to let the other person show their sincerity as I show a little at a time. If they don't step up, I step back.

I've learned to take my time to get to know people. THat can take a long, long, long time. It is human nature to put our best foot forward in new relationships/friendships. It takes a bit of time for the "real" person to emerge.

I tend to be a friendly person. I'm one of those people that strangers in the grocery store come up and talk to about the most personal things in their lives. I try not to be judgemental, rather I try to be understanding. That seems to get me in to situations I don't like.

I've learned!!!

I've been giving lots of thought to going back to school lately. It probably wouldn't surprise you know that, like you wish you had, I'd want to be studying psychology... or how to make mosaics ;)

XOXO

Another awesome post. I don't know why I didn't ask you a question. My mind is most often a blank canvas.....what can I say. Hmmm, uh, er, well....okay....I have one.....What makes you angry?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your answers to these questions. Have you ever posted any of your stained glass work to your blog? I bet it's lovely. And you've doled out excellent advice once again. If we wait around for someone to appreciate our "wonderfulness" and promote us, that it not likely to happen. It is up to us to forge ahead.

ladyfi: Butterfly beauty is the real deal, non?! xx

Hit 40: Law would be so interesting, and sooo hard! I had a great final year at College, the first was tough away from home for the first time, and during the second I almost had a nervous breakdown!

kapgaf: Tres vrai, kapgaf! 'Des bisous tout plein' - Ca c'est merveilleux! A toi aussi, chere k! x

Clipstress: Bless you, my sweetness... I hope you are feeling great this week, C! x

Blogus Nuttus: As do you, mon tresor! So full of spirit (or is it Diet Pepsi?!) and life! We are all un peu touche, non? I thought Fhina was very transparent and that you already knew all there was to know about moi, peut-etre pas/perhaps I've still got a way to go! xxooxx

La jinksy: I do know what you mean, jinks, and at the same time, we can make little differences/little tweaks, each day - And it is possible to see that light shine in others' lives.... xxx

Michelle: Bless you, sweet M! As do you, my darling - You have so much to say and so much fizzing energy - It turns our heads - In the best possible way... You are always so nice to me, M, thank you sweet gal! xxooxx

Derrick: Thank you, Sir, but I am completely crackers you know! I sense you are far more sensible, logical and sound! x

presious: I know what you mean, P, and I have been much the same in my life - Sometimes we can trust too much and be hurt by that... I am getting better at knowing when people have the shutters up, stopping you from getting in, and I now have less to do with those people, consequently... and I just wait for those who are genuine and who reciprocate - And I find it so lovely here, so much warmth, presious - I hope you find the same, my dahlink... x

Diane: No, I am no longer surprised by our similarities, my darling Diane... Making mosaics sounds very cool still - I am going to be doing a day-long digital photography course shortly, and then I hope to do more here with photos... And I do do a lot of amateur psychology/therapy stuff with friends...not sure they know that's what I'm up to! ;) xxx

AU: Thank you sweet AU! I shall get around to your question on Friday, definitely! Thank you for that! x

Reasons: Yikes, it is another toughie, non?! x

carma: Thank you lovely Carma! As I said to Diane, I now have a nice second-hand camera, and I'm going on a day's workshop to find out how to use it, and then I'm going to sign up for another day with the same photographer to learn Photoshop - So maybe over the summer I can get more artful with my own creations - Thank you for being interested, C! I can't wait to hear what you are up to on your course? x lent advice once again. If we wait around

Woman in a Window: Dahlink, I treasure each and every member of my 'audience', and all those whose beautiful blogs I have a chance to read... Thank you for your kindness and your talent, WiW! x

lakeviewer: You are so kind, Rosaria, and I shall treasure my award - From you it means so much! Grazie, bella Rosaria x
