Walk Like A Panther, Mes Bloggy Beauties!
I do not suggest you watch all of these, mes bloggy clipper ships!
Mais non, I mean only to offer up a weekend Smorgasbord of delights, all in the name of the English Loveheart Legend that is Tony Christie...
This first song was, in fact, written by our bold Jarvis Cocker... I think Tony does it full justice! The video is mint, non?! Sorry, trying to get down with the young 'uns there! I shouldn't really try, not with what I've put me knees through over the years... And over the harbour-master's back steps!
'You've got to fly like an eagle
Prowl like a lion in Africa
Leap like a salmon home from the sea
To keep up with me
You've got to walk like a panther tonight
Walk like a panther tonight'
Titter ye not, there are still those in our sceptered isle who believe that le Tony is American, so engrained is he in our hearts and minds with songs like Amarillo,
and I Did What I Did for Maria!
Still, here he is in all his violet glory - Enjoy!
And it wouldn't be an article on Tony Christie without Amarillo, which has been done to death the length and breadth of the land. In karaoke-land and in club-land, in comedy and even in Afghanistan...
Here, Tony is extracting the Michael (taking the Mickey - taking the p*ss) with the song himself... You should never take yourself too seriously, Fhina firmly believes.
Here are the Royal Dragoon Guards, enjoying the sun and doing a skit on comedian Peter Kay's take on Amarillo...
It is nice to see them smiling and enjoying themselves in such a dogged scenario, non?!
...And by showing this please do not think that I wish to enter into any, many, or all dialogues concerning the war, nor that I am condoning this war, or indeed any wars, past, present or Goddess-Wiki forbid, future...
Fhina is peace-loving, an old hippy-soul, in fact, but you knew that anyhoo.
Et Fhina-lement, here is Peter Kay himself, this time on Comedy Relief on BBC TV in 2005. I hadn't honestly seen this before now, and it is lovely to see so many British soap stars and other heroes, Sooty and Sweep, and the Rainbow cast - puppets from my childhood, the jokers from Happy Mondays, Brian May and Roger Taylor from Queen, Sir Michael Parkinson (chat-show host) and diddy Ronnie Corbett, whom we see taking a nasty non-comedic, but thankfully not fatal, tumble off the moving platform...
I hope it offers you a chuckle this weekend, mes dahlinks...
Mwah! Mwah! Two kisses for a weekend full of pleasures, wished for you most fondly by la Fhina!

Hi Fhina,
I remember Tony the first time around! You can't beat the old 'uns. I just wish he'd not do his hair so 'bouffant'!! Always good for a laugh, Fhina.
Bless you, Derrick - I thought you might like a little Tony! He isn't afraid to send himself up, and that is just so important to the English psyche, I think... x
Fun! If only guys were truly worried about cougars!! LOL
Try if you can to walk like a man!!
I love that line!!
I admit I never heard of Tony Christie. He seems cool though!!!
Enjoy your weekend my love!!!
If I wasn't hungover, I'd be watching those.
Hit40: And you say they're not?! x
Michelle: Have a fabulous day, my wonderful friend! xox
VKMom: Here you are, hungover, and it's such a pleasure to see you, my lovely! Big hugs coming your way, today and everyday! xox
Sooty and Sweep - I loved them!
Great set of clips.
I'm not familiar with all of this...that last clip was over-the-top-funny; what are they doing? I think I have missed something...thank's for the exposure to British humor. <3
Morning, love. Happy Saturday to you, and Happy Sunday, too.
Even on my wildest day, I never open my closet to find a trumpet player and a sax player in there. Where do I sign up for that?
XO
Bloggus
I truly enjoyed this, always loved all his tunes and I never knew there were all these clips out there!;) Very funny.;)
Hope you are having a great weekend.;) xo
Dumdad: Sooty and Sweep - such innocent fun, non?
Cynthia: All the walking around was what Peter Kay did in his video to Amarillo, joined by a variety of people, and this was a special for the BBC charity show, where he was joined by stars of stage and screen! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend - Thinking of you x
Bloggus Interruptus: Have a fab couple of days off work, my friend - I hope you get a chance to rest from the rigours of your job and your lovely, and hectic life... One of my friends once opened the closet to find her husband who had sleepwalked into there, thinking it was the bathroom - and you don't want to go there! xox
Z: Thank you, sweet Z! You too, my treasure! x
Man, I'm hungover too, but they were still funny.
Totally funny, and interesting. Thanks for the treat. Have a Happy Day.
I have to admit that I'd never heard of him, never heard the songs, and I am wondering what rock I've been under?
Fragrant Liar: Thank you! And what an interesting nom de plume!
Rosaria: And take care, my dahlink! x
Poutress: No worries, sweetheart - He probably didn't travel over the Pond, and you have a big country with lots of music to enjoy! x
Never heard of Tony, but he sounds sexy. Thank you Fhina for your usual feast of edutainment info, penned so gracefully and delivered pretty.
Ciao ma petite rossignol, have a great weekend.
Lola! Thank you so, ma petite bijou! Have a wonderful Sunday, sweetheart xox
I've never heard of Tony, either . . . does this fall into the English eccentrics series? (Or does this qualify YOU for full eccentric honours?)
When you use the word "mint" -- and then all of that next bit about "getting down" . . . I guffawed. Really. It was almost embarrassing. You just tickle me, as my grandmother used to say.
Bee: This does, sort of, fall into the English Eccentrics Series... I am not certain that Tony would qualify, but some (or all) of the behaviours exhibited in the clips would probably count as eccentric, think you not, darling, (endangered as a lovely species) Bee?!
As for moi... Eccentric? That ship has sailed, methinks... And, as for m'language, m'friend, what do you mean?! xox
I gotta get me a "violet glory" suit and start singing those tunes to my passengers.
I'm a bit late with this comment....where did yesterday go?!
Amarillo did get a lot of exposure but it still gets me singing along whenever I hear it. And that Comic Relief video is the best, Ronnie Corbett vanishing off the screen always makes me giggle. (It's ok, he didn't hurt himself!)
Thanks for showing me the first video, I hadn't seen it before. Nor did I know that groovy old Jarvis had written it. He comes up with such great lyrics. No wonder I love the song.
