Fight Fascism...

Fascism Pictures, Images and Photos

We interrupt Fhina's usual post and her merry japes with a Fhina-political broadcast, a public information notice if you like...

If you don't like political messages - Who does?! - then please come and see me over at our Parenting Teens' Bloglette - We're Mad Manic Mamas, and we're loud and we're proud!

'When Hitler was appointed chancellor on January 30th 1933, it was at the head of a coalition government. It was very clear in his mind that it would not remain this way for long. By the end of March 1933, he had acquired much greater powers than the former leading politicians of the Weimar Republic could ever have foreseen when they supported his appointment as chancellor.

The death of President Hindenburg in August 1934, allowed him to combine both chancellor's and president's positions into one and he became the Fuehrer and Reich Chancellor. The election took place in March - Hitler did not get the number of votes he wanted but he did get enough to get over a 50% majority in the Reichstag..."

And so it began... and fascism triumphed, illegally, over what was right.

Today, I am shocked by the growth of parties internationally and in the UK which profess to represent the common man or Fhina, but at whose core is hatred and bigotry, abhorrence of difference and diversity in our society... All this, wrapped up in somehow more palatable, economic cant, rant and rhetoric...

Please don't allow the closet, and more overt, fascists to misappropriate our votes, mes bloggy pollers...

One of the starkest moments in my life was visiting Ann Frank's house in Amsterdam alone one rainy October morning when the house was very quiet and the atmosphere jangled on my nerves. I intend to take my son, Grizz, there when we holiday in the Netherlands in August...

Then, stepping through the tall office bookcase, taking the steep steps up to Ann's attic, her family's refuge and hiding-place from the Nazis for two years, I grew cold to my core.

I had not expected to feel so much... feeling... The heart-shattering frisson of what might have been, and what was never to be, took hold of my soul; I felt all those lives that were wrenched, screaming, from us.

Looking through the tiny window in the attic, out at a glimpse of blue sky, Ann's favourite chestnut tree and the sun-blenched spire of the Westerkerk, I sensed all that art and life, all that youth and love, all that talent and potential denied, and I experienced how the potential to merely exist was stolen wrongfully and heartlessly, legally and lawfully from people like Anne.

People just like us in fact...

It's sometimes easy to fool folk. Fascists are often more cunning than we think...
Before push comes to shove, I shall fight it, mes bloggy loves...
I hope you can find it in your heart to do so too.

Hello Fhina,

What's brought this on? I can probably guess. It is difficult to understand how people allow these folks to gain power but we will see how long it lasts for the new EU intake.

Did you see the recent mini series with Robert Carlyle as Hitler? Excellent but scary! There's a You Tube clip here, if you like.

I also appreciated seeing the mini series about Anne Franck earlier in the year and did a post about it that you may not have seen. Here's the link if you wish to.

I recall watching Ann Frank's Diary on television as a young teenager and it was the most touching story I have ever heard by then. It made me realize how important the words "peace" and "freedom" are and put my own existence into perspective.

In school we were always taught "never to forget". Your post helps in that respect too.

It is terrifying to see the depths to which humans beings will plunge in order to make themselves feel better at the expense of making someone else wrong.

Why can't we all accept each other? Why not focus on Love?

I do not always comment, but often visit. I had little knowledge of fascism except when I could talk with my Dad, He was growing up during the time, worked with the French under ground and the British Intelligence in France until he was caught and then escaped. He made his way to Africa and became part of the free French Air Force until coming to the US. After he retired and moved to Colorado, I had the chance to see him react to the intolerant people (skin heads and the like) and realized they could not hide from someone who fought so closely against them.
Thank you for the post, it brought back good memories.

It is amazing what people can get away with right out in plain sight because the voters are not paying enough attention.

This post is a good reminder to pay attention.

What heroes you all are, you and yours - What stories and snippets - Thank you for sharing them with me... I've enjoyed these few moments, standing at the barricades with you... I really hope we might never have to do that in reality, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with you... But I feel strongly I could depend upon you, and I love that about you - That we care... Thank you, bless you xox
