Film Alphabet Soup

Something light for today, just right for a Sunday afternoon. How better to spend part of Sunday than tucked up on the sofa watching your 'feelgood' or as I like to think of them, 'comfort' films, or movies?

This is another Meme, plucked from a plethora of blogs I've noticed.

The idea being that you pick your favorite film for each letter of the alphabet.

The rules are, (but I think I broke them), that you ignore all articles ("a", "an", "the", "le", "la", "les", "der", "die", "das", "il", "gli", "el", etc.), unless the entire title of the film consists only of those articles, or the word, as used in the title, is not an article, e.g. the word 'Die' in Die Hard would only be an article if the movie had been in German. In the rest of the title, ignore additionally such words as: "and", "&", "in", "of".

If such words are included, use the next word in the title for sorting.

I also chose more than one film - I have never been one for rules, if I can bend them safely, or without anyone finding out...

Go ahead, it isn't easy, have a go! Enjoy!

Some of my favorites are on that list. And I have to admit - I did like X-Men (but I only saw the first one). This surprised me since I don't usually love superhero movies...

This would be a hard one. It's always hard to come up with a "best" or "favorite."

This almost makes me wish I was a film buff too - wouldn't have a bat's chance in hell of competing with one so into films, but adore Cary Grant, Rebecca, Chocolat and all Jane Austen variations.

I've written this comment three times and it's disappeared saying it cannot be accepted. I cannot write it all out again so here's a very shortened version I hope will get through:
Un Long Dimanche de Fiancailles
Jean de Florette (and Manon des Sources)
The English Patient
Leon
Casablanca
Goodbye and Good Night
The Piano
Walkabout
And many, many more...Parisgirl

Kate Coveny Hood:
Bless you for joining in - I like good Hollweird, and don't see that much - I enjoyed X-Men at the cinema and think it benefitted from the best of casts, and effects!

La Jinksy:

Yes, the love of dear old Cary Grant, aka Archie Leach, is writ across the films I love - He was such a star, and such an enigma, in many ways... I am into everything Jane Austen, and I get obsessive and repititious like that, and Chocolat is stunningly beautiful. But have you read the novel by Joanne Harris, even better than the film, and yet not really a happy ending?!

Parisgirl: I am so sorry you had techie probs - There's nothing worse, is there, and the same thing has happened to me too!
Un Long Dimanche de Fiancailles - I need to look out for this one!
Jean de Florette (and Manon des Sources)- Yes and yes!

The English Patient - the jury is out for me - I have watched it once only - and I do love the films of the lost and lamented Anthony Minghella - I adore Truly, Madly Deeply...
Leon = Oh yes, love Jean Reno's acting!
Casablanca = totally yes...
Goodbye and Good Night - Must look for this one!
The Piano = absolutely!
Walkabout, excellent, but too creepy for me, and I don't like Jenny Agutter, sorry...
Discuss?...

Auntie Gwen, I'll give you Gregory's Girl, but raise you That Sinking Feeling (1980)
and Local Hero (1983), which I do prefer... I adore, adore, adore Bill Paterson... I used to work with Ian Pattison's brother, does that raise my Scottish 'chops'?

Un Long Dimanche de Fiancailles has Audrey Tatou in serious role.
Goodbye and Good Night starring Gorgeous George Clooney and lots of atmospheric cigarette smoking.
English Patient because of the fabulous filming. And I love Truly, Madly, Deeply too.
In my original comment I also had:
Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby (Clint Eastwood is a fab director) and the hugely funny (in my opinion) Madagascar...but that's three Ms in one go!

Parisgirl, I really need to look out for all of those, I haven't seen any of them :(

I love George Clooney, and feel he is very much our Cary Grant, that same kind of intelligence in his most dramatic roles, and great sense of comedy timing too! I agree with you on Clint, and GJ is obsessive about the Dirty Harry films too!

fhina, your posts are so prolific - and demanding. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your '100 things' one but wouldn't know where to begin to do it justice. This one is a bit like that, too. As Moannie might say, I'm too old and impatient. But I love you! xx

You have some very interesting posts here. It's amazing how these internet sites allow us to get to know each other probably better than if we ever met.
