For the record...

Fez in his lion hat Pictures, Images and Photos

After yesterday's wild ramblings, when I found after the hiatus of not having t'Internet, I went totally postal, and created a too-long post. (I've done it before, I'll do it again, sans doute!) So, I have something which remains to be said from yesterday - A 'For the record...' Meme that follows in a little while - This came from the lovely Lettuce Eating Blogspot! Bless your little green heart, Lettie!

But first I must recount - This morning did not go wholly according to plan... I shall give you a little snippet of early morning life in Crawford Mansions - I'll try to keep it short...

You know that Carma and her son juggle skillfully, right? Well, my 17 year old Grizzles also lives and loves to juggle - Balls, clubs, you name it, he juggles it... (After the recent sad passing of our beloved Zeebookat, he was asking whether we could get kittens, and immediately the furry juggling potential sprang to my mind, and I am certain, his!)

So this morning, I found myself lobbing juggling balls, (soft - And he was lucky his clubs weren't to hand!), towards his sleeping head from the other side of his bedroom; My raucous North Shields' Fishwife voice having been insufficient to raise him from the arms of Morpheus...

His room is small, so it's not like I had to go far to shake him (gently) awake, but his floor was literally littered with assorted vestments and equipment, and I dared not risk my back, picking my giddy way through the debris...

I then went back to bed, to read for half an hour, waiting to ensure he was up, so I kept on calling out from my bed, making a variety of threats and promises... I was becoming more and more exasperated at his lateness, worrying he would miss the school bus, when his low, cornflake-gravelled, voice boomed up the stairs, "What are you on about you stupid bint, I am up!"

I sense another Embarrassing Parents' Episode coming on for Grizz, I do! What I mean is, recently, we found (as do most parents of the teen species) that we were fast becoming an on-call, 24/7 taxi service for the Bratfink!

We were strictly ordered to remain at a safe distance from where he was amassed with his mates, for fear of embarrassing him totally before them... Apparently our hippyesque appearance alone is enough for him to squirm horribly before the children of solicitors, lawyers and wealthy beer-importers! The cheek!

So, my OH decided he would set about some proper embarrassment, like... GJ grew keen to procure a hat that would be sure to offer the opportunity for sheer embarrassment for the child... For a time, a St. Patrick's Day tall green clover-type hat (courtesy of Messrs Guinness) sufficed... After a time 'though, the novelty palled. Then briefly I pressed into service a black and purple felt Witch's hat I usually don at Hallowe'en for the Trick or Treaters... (Well someone has to!)

tommy cooper Pictures, Images and Photos Eventually, I suggested a la (late UK TV magician) Tommy Cooper (pictured), a bright red felt, tasselled fez. GJ was convinced; An original vintage fez was obtained from e-bay, and we modelled it successfully about the house for a time... Of course, it looks far better on me than GJ, for some reason.

The fez now has pride of place on the back seat of Taxi Number 1, and from time to time GJ steps from the vehicle, usually on the pretext of retrieving something essential from the boot, just as we pull up to collect Ter Griz. Success!

Does anyone know where we can get an original Mexican felt sombrero? I've already tried ebay?!

Number 2 Meme this week (yesterday's bloggy left-overs) goes as follows - You work out your band name and artiste name, by following a number of random steps:

1 - BAND NAME: Go to "wikipedia." Hit “random article” or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random

The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

Result: I am "Clamoxyquine". I like!

QUEEN. Pictures, Images and Photos

2 - ALBUM TITLE: Go to "Random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3

The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

Result: "We inherit from our ancestors gifts so often taken for granted... Each of us contains within... this inheritance of soul. We are links between the ages, containing past and present expectations, sacred memories and future promise".
Edward Sellner

In The Mood Pictures, Images and Photos

Result: So my record is called, "Sacred Memories and Future Promise", which suits me down to the ground, don't you think?

3 - COVER ART: Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days

Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Of course, when this failed me, I resorted to my trusty Photobucket and found this fitting image of a 'snow bride', which kind of links to yesterday and the bridal theme I've sort of got going now! Stick with it, me loves, I'll start talking sense very shortly...

moon's bride Pictures, Images and Photos

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

I haven't... Do you care? You do have good imaginations, I know you have!

5 - Post it to FB with this text in the "caption" and TAG the friends you want to join in. (Be sure to tag me, so I can see your creation)

As usual-ish, I haven't tagged anyone - But if you'd like to pick it up, please feel free, courtesy of the hallowed Cat In The Hat!

What a devilishly cunning plan ! Alas I recently re-homed a vast straw sombrero that belong to a deceased aunt of mine it was about 3 ft across, trimmed in black and had a tassel to tie it under the chin in high winds, I fear it would have suited your needs perfectly. Quelle damage!

I thought I was the only one who used the word bint...

:)

Un Peu Loufoque - Alas, one of life's lost opportunities! Particularly if it were resistent to the high winds that are prevalent here!

Heart Braja: No, and the word 'bint' in my son's (cornflake-filled) mouth, comes very close to what he actually wants to call me! :)

Tim Atkinson said...

That'd be a great way to generate book titles, too. I'm going to try it!

Michelle said...

Fhina what does bint mean??? It's not good is it?? Cheeky and bint! I love it!!!

And i am so going to do this meme!!! Loving music and all!!! Perfecto!!!

I laughed at: his low, cornflake-gravelled, voice boomed up the stairs, "What are you on about you stupid bint, I am up!"

Now I am thinking the word bint is not a good thing is it???

A Woman Of No Importance said...

The Dotterel - You are so right, Sir - It's worth a try, and you don't have to use the first choice you come up with, but it is an interesting exercise!

Michelle: It isn't so bad really - It's English slang: "bint Noun. A woman. From the Arabic 'bint' meaning girl or daughter".

It could be worse, my love, it could be worse! You can imagine my face - doing all that shouting (I'm sure the neighbours could hear me), and he was downstairs, eating cornflakes, all that time!) x

Carol said...

I love it!!! My Mum and Dad joined hands and skipped down the road in front of all my school friends...I thought I was going to die of embarassment!!! If you can't find a hat....

Love the album meme and will give it a go the next time I have internet access (am not at home at the moment)

C x

Carol and Chris: Ooh, skipping! That would be more embarrassing than weird hat-wearing! Poor you, sans Internet! And I shall look forward to you doing the 'For the record' Meme! x

Hi Fhina,

I'm here now but couldn't get to leave a comment on the Drake post. I thought the song lyrics were very nice! You're an old romantic too! Never heard of him, actually, but that's not difficult where I'm concerned!

This meme sounds fun and your random selection seem to go together remarkably well, despite your photo cheat! I may give it a go.

Bint shall become a staple in my vocabulary! And, I'm totally stealing the hat idea, too. It will do my 'perfect' teenage children some good to be embarrassed over something I'm actually doing rather than wasting time being embarrassed over my actual existence.

High Desert Diva said...

Surely that is the most convoluted meme in the blogosphere....

Love the fez

A Woman Of No Importance said...

Derrick: 'Tis true, I am a sad old romantic for what good it does me - I have been having techie difficulties too - Culminating in a call to India which left me more than bamboozled when the chap went all technical on me! Bless you for your kindness, and hope you have some fun with the Meme!

blognut: We have diffused many situations over the years with humour - Including Grizz's first tantrums - They didn't last long after that!

Teenagers are an altogether different species, non?! And I changed my dress style completely, after my son said my orange sundress and matching sandals combo meant I was not allowed to pick him up from a swimming gala, as his twelve year old girlfriends had poked fun!

High Desert Diva: I know what you mean - I was almost afraid to post it! I am nothing if not convoluted, and that is one of my favourite words to use too, HDD!

The fez is so cool, and quite flattering for a woman to wear - I almost wish they would come back into fashion - Perhaps they never really went away!

I love embarrassing the kid part! VolleyGirl hates for her dad to take her to school.....I think underwear on the head would be suffieciently child appalling.

A Woman Of No Importance said...

AU: Hey, underwear is good, and I might also take to wearing a fake, plastic little girl's tiara - like Chloraquine - Nothing like delusions of grandeur to embarrass the little 'uns!

Jewels said...

My random article was Two if By Sea... a movie with Sandra Bullock.. but still a good name for a band!

A Woman Of No Importance said...

Jewels: Get 'Two If By Sea' trade-marked quickly - Before someone beats you to it! I love it... Can I come on the World Tour?!

Carolina said...

Oh the rabbit and the Mona Lisa with fez cracked me up! As did the rest of your post.

I had a déja vu on the meme. Why? Did you post it yesterday? Or was that another one. Sorry, totally lost in the blue with a splitting headache. Never mind.

Love you, hugs

A Woman Of No Importance said...

Carolina - I am sorry, I did post this Meme yesterday and then very quickly deleted that part of it, because I have a tendency to blog on too long, and it often isn't until I publish full size that I realise that - Sorry again!

You must have read the post 'hot off the press', as it were, you speedy thing, you! Love and light, x

Grumpy Old Ken said...

Please, please tell me if this connects. keep pressing the wrong buttons!

Grumpy Old Ken said...

i can see it connected. How strange1 Just wanted to prove I do actually read your delightful blog!

A Woman Of No Importance said...

Grumpster - Welcome again - I know the techie world runs away with all of us, from time to time! We're all struggling!

Reasons said...

Ah I can see it now, he'll be on the Oprah Winfrey show..."It all started when my mum got this hat..." :-)

Fifi Flowers said...

Looks like hat day! Love the rabbit photo!

Kate Coveny Hood said...

I can't write a short post to save my life. In fact - the one that just went up has set a record for me. I wonder if anyone will actually read it...

The fez is classic. I love it.

Carma Sez said...

I am flattered that you referred to my spastic attempt at juggling as "skillful," but, hey, I'll take it! I am wondering if there is something in the genetics of jugglers that makes it difficult for them to get out of bed in the morning. I have the same troubles here and may start lobbing some of those juggling props across the room a la your method!! I'll report back :-)

Rob-bear said...

Juggling's great fun. I just can't quite get it right.

I hope that Grizzles gets real enjoyment from juggling. I also hope that, if becomes an accountant, the he does not try juggling the books.

The fez pictures were a delight! Very effer-fez-cent.

I don't speak French, so I always have to read your posts with my daughter's school dictionary.I have heard of Oscar Wilde though. Didn't he make that movie The Birds? Shame on ebay for not having a mexican hat. So much for them having everything. Kelcey at Mamabird diaries had some great mexican hats pictured on her site a while back. I mentioned at the time that I would like one to wear when I pick my own sulky-teenage-girl-brat up from school.

Reasons to be Cheerful 1,2,3: He already watches that Steve-O and loves it - so I think when he's a world famous drummer(I live in hope!) that will be his show of choice - I've already told him I'm donning a rucksack to come on tour to play the cowbell, and stop them taking any of that powder from saucers!

Fifi Flowers: Glad to obligem dear Fifi!

Kate Coveny Hood: A woman after my own heart - Long posts are the bee's knees!

carma: Perhaps it's that laid back, concentrated-intelligence thing about jugglers that makes them languish in their beds longer than most of us! I think mine has inherited his mother's genes for sleeping well! Just don't throw the clubs, Carma darling, I don't want a Transatlantic Court Case on my hands (again!) x

Rob-bear: Helloo! It is tough - I've never managed more than two balls in the air! Accountancy is not where Ter Griz is heading - His maths ability again has been inherited from his mother - Tant pis! Glad you liked the efferfezzent pics!

Belle: Welcome follower - Thank you! I am sorry that you have to pick up your DD's dictionary, I try not to use French that isn't more commonly used in British media, but I sometimes run away with myself - I do apologise and will try not to exclude... x Yes, Oscar was the one with the mother in the rocking chair in the cellar - Definitely! Good luck with finding your own hat for exclusive embarrassment techniques with the teenage DD! We love them, they are such a delight, non?! Perhaps we should write a teenage parenting self-help book?! x
