I'm Lazy... According to David Byrne and Quentin Crisp...Oh and Mark Twain!
"The very purpose of existence is to reconcile the glowing opinion we hold of ourselves with the appalling things that other people think about us". Quentin Crisp...
"There is no need to do any housework at all.
After the first four years the dirt doesn`t get any worse" - Quentin Crisp.
"Have a place for everything and keep the thing somewhere else; this is not a piece of advice, it is merely a custom". – Mark Twain.
"I make no secret of the fact that I would rather lie on a sofa than sweep beneath it. But you have to be efficient if you’re going to be lazy". – Shirley Conran.
Shirley Conran is very much a hero of mine... I read her, I think, Sixties' book, Superwoman, in the Eighties while staying at my husband's late Aunt Edna's house in Seascale in Cumbria.
It gave me ideas on how to be a feminist housewife, if that makes sense... Such things as never bothering to iron socks, or tea-towels, or bed-linen... Not killing yourself by way of being the perfect house-cleaner, as well as a partner and mother, and working outside the home, as well as in it...
Edna was a superwoman, for many, many reasons I'm not going to go into here because her five wonderful children are still walking this earth, and will have their own fabulous memories of how incredible, funny and gifted she was...
And so, whenever I feel like cleaning the house like a banshee (rarely!), or someone is troubled about the state of their home and is apologizing to me profusely, (as if anyone has really ever noticed?), I will quote Shirley:
"Life's too short to stuff a mushroom!"

I AM FIRST!!!
I am lazy also. I do not like to clean but I like what everything looks like when it is indeed clean! Go figure!!
HAPPY DAY TO YOU!!! I miss you Fhina!!!
I've been known to wait for the fairies to come and clean, but they've often let me down.
best wishes

Hello Fhina,
That video is amusing! Why should it be a bloke, I wonder? But there's a difference between not liking housework and being lazy. I could be both!
Hurrah for your sensibilities, Fhina. House-work is work; and is never shared equally by those living in the house. Most men who choose to do house-work, do it because the task is one of their hobbies.
I actually have new neighbors coming over for the first time tonight. I will knock myself out this first time to make sure everything is clean and put away. After that, you get what you get...
You know... you've mentioned that life is too short to stuff a mushroom to me before.
I gotta ask - what the HECK does that mean?!
Love to you, Fhina dear!

Ironing socks - bah!!! Does anyone do that anymore. I use the iron about twice a year. maybe. Great post! Now back to my regularly scheduled laziness :D
Me too. Thankfully I have maid. And an ironing man. And a gardener.
Damn, I AM lazy.
Please tell me there aren't women out there still ironing socks!!
I love that mushroom quote - it's so true. I'm sitting here in a house that looks like a bomb site and it's doing my head in. It would appear that the more housework there is to do the more overwhelmed I become!
Why I couldn't agree more......there's just so much living to do. I don't mind a wee bit of dust as long as I'm doing something wonderful instead :)
Have a great day Fhina and.......

I don't think there ever was a lazy man in this world. Every man has some sort of gift, and he prizes that gift beyond all others. He may be a professional billiard-player, or a Paderewski, or a poet--I don't care what it is. But whatever it is, he takes a native delight in exploiting that gift, and you will find it is difficult to beguile him away from it. Well, there are thousands of other interests occupying other men, but those interests don't appeal to the special tastes of the billiard champion or Paderewski. They are set down, therefore, as too lazy to do that or do this--to do, in short what they have no taste or inclination to do. In that sense, then I am phenomenally lazy. But when it comes to writing a book--I am not lazy. My family find it difficult to dig me out of my chair.
